New York League of Conservation Voters - 2009 Endorsement

Phil Barrett

The New York League of Conservation Voters offered congratulations to Phil Barrett on their endorsement in his race for Re-Election as Town Supervisor in Clifton Park.  It was clear to the NYLCV that Phil Barrett's 10 Years of strong and lengthy accomplishments regarding environmental issues in the Town of Clifton Park. 

Phil Barrett clearly laid out not only the numerous accomplishments to protect our environment, but also laid out a clear plan for the future to make Clifton Park the gold standard in environmental responsibility.  This made it an easy choice for the NYLCV to endorse Supervisor Barrett.

Accomplishments evaluated by  the NY League of Conservation Voters included:

  • Establishing our G.R.E.E.N. Committee in Clifton Park
  • Converting all lighting at Town Hall to energy saving bulbs with motion sensors instead of switches.
  • Establishing plastic recycling program at the Clifton Common
  • Establishing a white paper recycling program at Town Hall
  • Converting Town Hall to an energy efficient heating system.
  • Town yard waste recycling to mulch program.
  • Establishment of Conservation Residential Zoning
  • Two Smart Growth Awards awarded to Clifton Park
  • Award for Karner Blue Butterfly habitat enhancement.
  • Establishment of Open Space Program
  • Protection of almost 1000 acres of Open Space
  • The development of 13 miles of new trails to the town trail system.
  • Made creating a more pedestrian and cyclist conducive environment in all new projects.

Supervisor Phil Barrett did not just boast about his accomplishment but also laid out his plans to NYLCV which include:

  • Continuing and enhancing the current initiatives already in place.
  • Continue to utilize and move forward recommendations from the G.R.E.E.N. Committee.
  • Studying the possibility of partnering with a NY company on development of a Solar Energy Field.
  • Re-investing revenue from strategic partnerships in continued green energy development.
  • Enforcement of Cluster Zoning to preserve open space in future development projects.
  • Active pursuit of the Stony Creek Reservoir property for open space protection.
  • Commitment to protection of the most rural areas of town.
  • Continuing the town hazardous waste and bulk waste pickup days.
  • Current study of and future commitment to expand the town trail system.
